What To Expect At New Beginnings
Church
At Last!
A new church service has been designed for
those who have given up on
traditional church services. Let's
face it, many people are not active
in church these days. Why?
Too often:
-
The sermons are boring and don't
relate to daily living.
-
Many churches seem more
interested in your wallet than
you.
-
Members are unfriendly to
visitors.
-
You
wonder about the quality of the
nursery care your children will
receive.
Do you think attending church should
be enjoyable? WE'VE GOT GOOD NEWS
FOR YOU!
NEW BEGINNINGS CHURCH is designed to
provide you with a fresh start in a
new millennium . We're a group of
friendly, happy people who have
discovered the joy of the Christian
lifestyle.
At New Beginnings Church, you will:
-
Meet new friends and get to know
your neighbors.
-
Enjoy upbeat music with a
contemporary flavor.
-
Hear positive, practical
messages that encourage you.
-
Trust your children to the care
of dedicated nursery workers
every week.
SO WHY NOT GET A LIFT THIS WEEK? I
invite you to be my special guest
this Sunday at either of our two
Sunday services. We meet at 9:00 am
and 11:00 am. We also meet on
Wednesdays at 7:00 pm. We are located at:
2531
Oakes Avenue, in the heart of
Everett, Washington, corner of 26th Street
and Oakes Avenue.

What Kind Of Church Is This?
I am frequently asked, "What kind of
church is this?" Sometimes visiting
people are unsure how to categorize
us. Are we Evangelicals? In
doctrine, yes, but we are open to
the ministries associated with the
gifts of the Spirit though not in
the emotionally based manner usually
associated with Pentecostalism. If
this sounds confusing please read
further. I will attempt to explain
the purpose behind the practices of
New Beginnings Church.
Mission Statement
A mission statement is a public
statement of purpose, a clear way to
communicate to others and to remind
ourselves of the God given reason
for our existence as a church. He
has given us a reason or purpose to
exist. Every local church has a
unique purpose in God's plan for a
community. Stating our purpose in
writing helps people decide if this
is where God wants them to invest
themselves in ministry. New
Beginnings Church is a purpose
driven church. We believe God has
called us to reach out to the
unchurched so that he can repair the
wreckage in their lives and answer
life's deepest questions for them.
We have "good news." Our mission
statement reflects our desire to
"Our Purpose is to Help People
Know and Love God and His Goodness,
and Equip them to be all that God
has Destined them to be."
Based upon our stated purpose, to
reach unchurched people and disciple
them, we have made a number of
specific choices we feel are
pleasing to God as to how we will
"do church." This is difficult at
times for a person who is searching
for something that resembles their
original church experience.
Sometimes, people initially
enthusiastic about New Beginnings
are disappointed when they finally
understand that we are deeply
committed to our purpose and that it
is our mission (not past
experiences) that determines how we
"do church."
A Sermon You Can Understand
When I prepare a message I attempt
to take the idea God has placed in
my heart and explain it in a way
that someone who has never heard of
Jesus will understand. I am not
trying to convince people who are
already believers. Basically, every
week, I just try to explain
Christianity in a manner that is
interesting and hopefully
understandable. I am not always
successful, but that is my intent. I
have an unspoken agreement with the
people in our church who are
"bringers and includers" that, when
their friends come, I won't
embarrass them by speaking on
something that only makes sense to
church people.
I attempt to speak on relevant
subjects, including principles for
living that have meaning for
Christians and non-Christians alike.
Someone looking for messages steeped
in theological terms and dealing
primarily with themes of interest to
the already converted will probably
be disappointed. I understand.
Worship That Makes Sense
The presence of God is
awe-inspiring. When God's presence
is felt it is a powerful witness to
unbelievers. The way we worship must
be understandable to those we are
attempting to reach. The music we
choose should be contemporary to the
people we are trying to reach. It
should not be too long. The flow of
the worship service is more
important then the length. Many
people love the worship at New
Beginnings. It is the reason many
have made this their church home.
Occasionally someone will express
the wish that we would "take it
further." I am all for that if "take
it further" means a deeper sense of
awe, reverence, and love for God. If
however, "take it further" means
behaving in a way that people from a
Pentecostal background are
comfortable with but others are not,
then the answer is no.
This is not because we don't
appreciate our Pentecostal and
charismatic friends. We do. They
have a rich spiritual heritage and
have contributed much to the body of
Christ. It is just that the practice
of a physically demonstrative or
emotionally driven form of worship
is not in harmony with our purpose
of effectively presenting the "good
news" to unchurched people in an
environment of love, acceptance, and
forgiveness. I believe that God has
led us to be sensitive to the fears,
hang-ups, and needs of unbelievers
in our worship services. Paul taught
this principle in 1 Corinthians
14:23. He stated that tongues be
limited in public worship. His
reasoning? Speaking in tongues seems
like foolishness to unbelievers.
Paul didn't say tongues were
foolish, only that they appear
foolish to unbelievers.
God seeks worshippers who worship
him in spirit and truth (John 4:23).
He responds with his presence.
Worship that is in spirit and truth
comes from the heart. I believe we
can express our deep love and
appreciation to God in a way that
makes sense to the unchurched who are our guests. As newcomers in an
unknown environment, they interpret
what they see and hear. Other
churches embrace a mission that is different from ours. I think every
church needs to prayerfully discover
God's will and stick with it.
Our Beliefs
We believe that Jesus Christ is the
Son of God and that He was crucified
and buried. On the third day, He
rose from the dead and ascended to
Heaven where He sits at the right
hand of God the Father Almighty
until His enemies become His
footstool.
We believe in the rapture, that the
dead in Christ will rise first, and
those who are alive and remain shall
be caught up to meet Jesus in the
air.
We believe that after death, eternal
life begins either in heaven or in
hell; where one spends eternity is
based on one's decision to live
according to God's Word and
commandments or to rebel against
God.
We believe in the indwelling and the
baptism of the Holy Spirit with the
evidence of speaking in tongues.
We believe the Bible is the written
Word of God inspired by God. We
believe faith is acting out on the
Word of God.
We believe in divine healing which
is the restoration of health to one
who believes and acts on God's Word
and that Jesus is the Healer. We
further believe that by the stripes
of Jesus we are healed!
We believe in tithing and bringing
offerings into the local church. We
believe in giving alms, and caring
for the poor, sick, homeless, and
otherwise unfortunate. We believe in
water baptism in the name of the
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We
believe in the name of Jesus, and
the authority invested in that name. |
